Accredited Carpenters for Local Authorities

Barnwood Carpentry Ltd is an approved supplier for local authorities, working within the parameters set out to deliver excellence, on time and within budget.

Award-Winning Carpentry Business

Serving Guildford & Surrey County Council

Barnwood Carpentry has been an authorised contractor to Surrey County Council since 2018.  During this time, we have become specialists in restoring, replacing, and refurbishing countryside access routes, including foot bridges, bridleway bridges, steps, and staircases, as well as building wildlife boxes, planters and cabins.

We are passionate about our countryside and spend time tailoring our approach for every individual project to ensure our environmental impact is positive.   An example of this is our Civic Design Award for Environmental Improvement for our rebuilding of Godalming’s Boarden Bridge.

Barnwood Carpentry is an experienced, professional contractor, offering not only excellent craftsmanship, but also the essential administrative function needed.  We are fully insured and carry out extensive risk assessments and method statements for each project.   We have extensive experience in completing framework applications and individual tenders and have an up-to-date suite of policies and procedures to assist with this.

Environmental Policy

Barnwood Carpentry Ltd recognises the increasing importance of protecting our environment.  Our team is local to us and committed to working in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, minimising dust and noise, reducing waste, and disposing of waste at recognised and lawful waste recycling facilities.

We take every precaution to protect the environment while we work, especially our woodlands and watercourses.  We use local suppliers and labour wherever possible and use timber from PEFC and/or FSC certified suppliers.   We will continue to strive to reduce our carbon footprint where possible and support our local community.

Our quotation process

However you choose to contact us, we will arrange a mutually convenient time to visit you and discuss your project.  We will take time to fully understand what it is you need and how you want it to look, talking through different design and material options, and considering alternative approaches. After this meeting, we will put together a detailed written quotation or estimate which we will send to you via email for your consideration.

Our approach to working with you

From the moment you give us instruction, we get to work.  Once we have an agreed start date to work towards, we take time to select the best possible materials for your project and order these in a timely fashion to avoid delays to our build.  Richard will occasionally carry out a second site visit to finalise measurements and material choices, and to brief one of our senior carpenter team.   For larger projects, we may ask for a deposit to cover the initial purchase of the materials.  Then we will invoice in stage payments, or at the end of the build – this we will agree with you in advance.

On the agreed project start date, our team will arrive at 8am with all the tools and materials they need to begin work.  We take great care to work carefully and tidily, using where needed dustsheets and carpet protectors inside, and tarpaulins and ground mats outside.  We liaise with our clients throughout the build and discuss any issues or findings as they happen.  It is important to us that our clients have a voice and that we listen to what you say.  We will always be as flexible as we can and explain everything that we do.

At the end of the build, we leave the site neat and tidy.  We remove and lawfully dispose of all waste (unless otherwise agreed).  It is only once our client has signed off the work that we will submit our final invoice.  We want you to be happy!

We offer continued support to our clients and will provide you with maintenance and care suggestions for your build.  If you have any concerns or questions, we are always happy to hear from you and will help in any way we can.

Standards and Safety

The health and safety of our team, clients, and members of the public is always at the centre of everything we do.  We are constantly evaluating, monitoring, and improving our systems of work to ensure we work efficiently and safely.  We utilise the expertise of the Federation of Master Builders to bolster our Health & Safety knowledge and to keep up to date with all the latest advice and guidance.  We want you to feel safe and have confidence in us.
