Extensive replacement of softwood timbers of Orangery
Our client contacted us for help in restoring one side of an orangery that had major decay caused by water ingress. A timber survey had been completed and found that although repairs had been undertaken previously, unfortunately, these had not been fit for purpose and resulted in further damage and degradation.
The only course of action open to us was a full replacement of the structural frame while preserving the intricately made sash windows and curved-top doors. We constructed a temporary roof structure and internal stud wall to protect our client’s property for the duration of the project.
We sanded back the windows and doors and carried out repairs. Once we had refitted these into the new softwood frame, our professional decorator treated the timbers, doors, and windows in Sadolin Extra Durable Woodstain in Redwood colour. The Orangery is now back in full use and ready to stand the test of time.
Work Completed – February 2024
“Very happy with the work carried out by the team. I was very reassured throughout the process by their thoughtful approach to what was a fairly complex problem to rectify. Everything was done to a high standard of workmanship and within the estimated amount. Will be recommending Barnwood to others, and be reaching out to them again in future.”.
