A softwood and oak garden studio located in a steeply tiered garden.
Our brief for this garden studio was to create a yoga studio on the uppermost tier of a very steep garden. The client was keen to use Oak for this studio. However, this was cost-prohibitive, so we came up with a softwood and Oak hybrid solution to keep the overall cost within budget.
The garden came with its own individual challenges due to the sharp incline and shape of the space available to use. We started with the groundworks, taking great care to ensure we were working from a level base, and once we had our datum and levels set, we installed levelled-in concrete pocket foundations. The studio was purposefully built in an irregular shape to maximise the floor space and, therefore, usability as a yoga studio.
We erected a softwood frame, and then the studio was externally clad using Oak cladding to the front and side aspects, which were visible, and softwood to the back and side aspects, which were hidden from sight. We also used oak detailing around the doors and on the window boards. The bi-fold doors can be opened up in good weather and maximise the light inside.
Again, this was a turnkey solution that included electrics, plastering, roofing, and decoration, and so was ready for the yoga classes to begin. Barnwood created a peaceful oasis in a particularly challenging location by making a bespoke studio to fit and fill the space available.
