Footbridges

Barnwood Carpentry is a preferred supplier to Surrey County Council to maintain, repair, and rebuild the many timber-framed footbridges and bridleway bridges that SCC has responsibility for.

Over the last two years, the Council has brought in the use of recycled plastic timbers for some of its bridges which will ensure longevity and reduce the need for replacement in the future.   We have successfully built several of these and whilst they look slightly different to the timber bridges, they really look good and fit in with the natural surroundings.

Building these bridges gives us the chance to see remote and beautiful areas of our countryside and the opportunity to preserve access for many generations to come.

By displaying the FMB badge of quality, we are demonstrating that we are experienced, accredited professionals that you can trust.

Our quotation process

However you choose to contact us, we will arrange a mutually convenient time to visit you and discuss your project.  We will take time to fully understand what it is you need and how you want it to look, talking through different design and material options, and considering alternative approaches. After this meeting, we will put together a detailed written quotation or estimate which we will send to you via email for your consideration.

Our approach to working with you

From the moment you give us instruction, we get to work.  Once we have an agreed start date to work towards, we take time to select the best possible materials for your project and order these in a timely fashion to avoid delays to our build.  Richard will occasionally carry out a second site visit to finalise measurements and material choices, and to brief one of our senior carpenter team.   For larger projects, we may ask for a deposit to cover the initial purchase of the materials.  Then we will invoice in stage payments, or at the end of the build – this we will agree with you in advance.

On the agreed project start date, our team will arrive at 8am with all the tools and materials they need to begin work.  We take great care to work carefully and tidily, using where needed dustsheets and carpet protectors inside, and tarpaulins and ground mats outside.  We liaise with our clients throughout the build and discuss any issues or findings as they happen.  It is important to us that our clients have a voice and that we listen to what you say.  We will always be as flexible as we can and explain everything that we do.

At the end of the build, we leave the site neat and tidy.  We remove and lawfully dispose of all waste (unless otherwise agreed).  It is only once our client has signed off the work that we will submit our final invoice.  We want you to be happy!

We offer continued support to our clients and will provide you with maintenance and care suggestions for your build.  If you have any concerns or questions, we are always happy to hear from you and will help in any way we can.

Standards and Safety

The health and safety of our team, clients, and members of the public is always at the centre of everything we do.  We are constantly evaluating, monitoring, and improving our systems of work to ensure we work efficiently and safely.  We utilise the expertise of the Federation of Master Builders to bolster our Health & Safety knowledge and to keep up to date with all the latest advice and guidance.  We want you to feel safe and have confidence in us.

Really nice good humoured team and a pleasure to have on-site. Finish quality was outstanding and reliability and communication through the process was faultless. Will certainly be using them again in the future and have no hesitation in recommending them to others.
