Conservatory Restoration & Green Oak Pergola Replacement

The restoration and repair of an existing timber-framed conservatory and the replacement of a bespoke green Oak pergola, whilst preserving a mature, vine.

Our clients were passionate about repairing and protecting their timber-framed conservatory and avoiding the use of UPVC at all costs. The aim was to deliver a high-quality, long-lasting repair that respected the character of the mid-19th-century cottage whilst introducing modern insulation and reducing draughts and water ingress.

We were also asked to replace their ageing pergola, which was fully entwined with a mature and much-loved grapevine.

Our carpenters removed the damaged or weakened timbers and installed new oak sections. The roof was insulated, and the entire conservatory was plasterboarded, plastered, filled, sanded, and caulked in preparation for decoration, both inside and out.

The grapevine was carefully propped and protected whilst the old pergola was removed. A new green oak frame was installed to support the grapevine, using traditional framing skills.

Our clients were delighted with the finished result, as their conservatory and garden have been given a new lease of life whilst still being in keeping with their beautiful cottage.

This review is rather long… please read… this company is special in many ways…

Jo and I live in a mid‑19th‑century cottage… After discussions with a traditional UPVC provider and Richard, we opted for a matching oak conservatory and pergola, with an ambitious plan of retaining the existing roof structure with improved insulation and maximising glass coverage in the walls.

Richard’s whole approach to the pitch and project planning was spot on. No surprises, no over‑promises and no over‑selling… just what we look for (and very rarely see!).

The team put up a temporary workshop in the garden, the methodology was simple but extremely effective, and every day was excellent — hard work, good communication, and a complete clean‑up at close of work.

When it came to the pergola, the whole team arrived and the build process — including retaining a mature, intricately entwined vine, unharmed — took two days… sensational!

Every single member of the team was hard‑working, proficient, tidy and polite. The project finished earlier than the out‑date we were given, and the final bill was discussed in person — a really nice touch — with small additional costs fully recognised and unquestionably fair.

Finally, one of the team noticed a very minor impurity in a glass pane and brought it to our attention. Many wouldn’t have pointed it out. What a statement of the kind of people who run this business.

Trust is key. This company engenders it at all levels. Thank you all so much!
